Springfield Academy of Excellence

We are a COMER School

Springfield Academy of Excellence is proud to be a Comer school (Dr. James Comer, Yale University) that believes maximum academic achievement for all students happens when:

  • Developmental needs of the whole child are met;
  • Students are given adequate time to master skills (different children require different amounts of time to learn);
  • Extra instructional time is devoted to numeracy and literacy skills because success in all other subjects is dependent on the mastery of these basic skills.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy emphasizes building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community. The relationship begins with transparency—all stakeholders are encouraged to be aware of every aspect of our school. We even have a parent who is a voting member of the governing board. The lead parents shares school information with other parents during Parent Team meetings. A parent is also part of our School Planning and Management Team. Why Choose Springfield Academy of Excellence?

  • We are proud to be a school that was birthed in this community, is locally operated (no management company), and has a state-certified staff with a fierce urgency to increase academic performance.
  • Since 2001, Springfield Academy of Excellence is a Comer School that has been diligently working to develop the whole child. We have continuously refined our processes, scrutinized student and staff data, and developed our working model of research-based best practices.
  • Our parents have a true voice through the parent representative who is a voting member of our governing board.
  • Springfield Academy of Excellence is a year round public school that has free tuition, state certified teachers, small class sizes, accelerated reading program, free breakfast and lunch program.
  • The curriculum is aligned with the State standards.

If you have any questions about our school, we would encourage you to call our school office at 937-325-0933 and ask to speak with our Principal, Mrs. Edna Chapman.
